What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a mental health profession that utilizes the creative process and art-making to address emotional, psychological and social challenges. It helps individuals of all ages, including children who are experiencing behavioral challenges or those with Autism Spectrum disorder, explore their thoughts and feelings, gain self-awareness, and develop coping skills. Art Therapists use various art materials and techniques, including painting, drawing, sculpting, and collage to facilitate expression and communication.

How to incorporate art into your process

Keep a visual journal

Instead of (or alongside) writing, fill a sketchbook with doodles, colors, collages, or symbols that reflect your mood, thoughts, or experiences. No rules—just expression.

Incorporate art into your daily routine

Set aside 10 minutes a day to draw, paint, or sculpt while focusing on your breath or emotions. This can help calm the nervous system and reconnect you to the present.
